My Take: 7/10

Parental Rating: Older Teens & Young Adults

The Dynasty reboot is a delicious, high-gloss spectacle that thrives on the visceral reality of extreme wealth and cutthroat corporate ambition. It earns its score not by trying to be prestige television, but by fully embracing its active presence as a modern, campy soap opera. The creative execution is stylish, fast-paced, and highly addictive. What saves the show from drowning in its own melodrama is the intellectual integrity of its breakout star, Elizabeth Gillies. Her performance anchors the series, proving that even within a framework of ridiculous plot twists and shifting alliances, a character with high-stakes competence and sharp wit can steal the entire narrative.

The story centers on the ultra-wealthy Carrington family as they navigate internal power struggles and global business rivalries in Atlanta. At the heart of the chaos is Fallon Carrington, played with absolute brilliance by Gillies. Fallon operates with a fierce personal code of self-reliance, determined to carve out her own empire despite the unwavering authority of her billionaire father, Blake. As she navigates the mean reds of family betrayals, secret siblings, and corporate sabotage, the series becomes a masterclass in human behavior driven by ambition. It’s a fast-paced narrative of personal agency where the glamour is sleek, but the knives hidden behind the characters' backs are incredibly sharp.

The Parental Lens

This series serves as a surprisingly useful catalyst for parents to watch with older teens and young adults because it provides an extreme framework for discussing accountability, influence, and the limits of loyalty. Fallon Carrington is a fascinating study for a creative mentor to break down with a teen; she possesses incredible professional code and functional expertise, yet her emotional truth is constantly tested by her toxic environment. You can talk to your teen about the concept of a foundational family: how do you separate your own voice and personal agency from a high-pressure family legacy that expects you to conform?

The show also explores the moral or personal pressure that comes with a hyper-competitive lifestyle. While the visceral reality of the Carringtons' world is completely detached from normal life, the underlying themes of trust and the search for an unspoken bond are universal. As a parent, you can ask your teen: "Fallon is incredibly driven, but where does her ambition cross the line into losing her integrity?" It’s a vital conversation for young adults entering a world that often rewards ruthless competence, reminding them that true authority shouldn't cost you your foundational values.

My Final Take

Dynasty is a smart, soulful, and relentlessly entertaining ride that knows exactly what it wants to be. It’s a reminder for our older teens that while a sharp voice and high-stakes competence can get you into the room, your intellectual integrity is what keeps you grounded when the mental noise gets too loud. The creative execution, defined by its spectacular fashion, witty insults, and Gillies’ commanding performance, ensures the show remains a sleek benchmark for modern melodrama. It is for the family that enjoys deep strategy wrapped in high fashion, offering a fun escape that still leaves room for meaningful dialogue.
